Formula, when it applies, and when it does not

Calculate cutting speed, axial feed rate, and nominal drilling time from drill geometry, spindle speed, feed per revolution, depth, and hole count.

  • Constant feed per revolution
  • Cutting length equals entered depth
  • Integer hole count
  • Reference arithmetic only

Don’t

  • This is reference machining arithmetic for constant-speed, constant-feed drilling. It excludes approach, breakthrough, retract, peck cycles, tool wear, material and coolant effects, machine acceleration, fixturing, chip evacuation, spindle limits, power, quality, and process qualification.
